This Steel Picatinny Rail is precision made by Contessa Alessandro & C. s.n.c. The mount is precision made to fit the Sako Tapered Dovetail System. Supplied as components, the separate bases are mounted to the rifle and locked in place with vertical locking screws (we do suggest giving the bases a firm tap with a plastic hammer to make sure they're fitted on fully).

Then the picatinny rail is attached to the bases using the screws provided. As the picatinny rail is adjustable in length, provided the bases on your Sako are between 66mm and 90mm apart, the rail will be able to fit.

Fitting:
A common issue with the Sako rifles is that the taper on the rifle is not the same as the taper on the picatinny rail. Contessa have designed their rail to fit as accurately as possible, tested on a wide number of Sako 85 actions. We have discovered there are slight variations in the Sako rifle dovetails due to factory tolerances, so even just a 1/100th of a mm can mean a poor fit. A method we use to overcome this poor fit is to hand fit the bases onto the rifle using a file. You may discover that the bases do not slide on fully flush with the back of the bases on the rifle, especially on older models of Sako which predate the Sako 85. * The older models of Sako with the tapered dovetail, even on the Sako 75, there are larger variations in the dovetail widths. So you may discover that the rail does not slide on fully flush with the back of the rifle. This again would require hand fitting to the rifle.
